DMCA Notice & Procedure

Storyroom (“we”, “our”, “us”) hosts works that are either
(a) in the public domain (e.g. Project Gutenberg titles) or
(b) user-generated content (“UGC”) such as fan-fiction.

We respect the intellectual-property rights of creators and will promptly respond to copyright-infringement claims in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (“DMCA”).

1. What to include in your DMCA notice

Please send a written notice that contains all six items required by17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3):

  1. Your physical or electronic signature;
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed;
  3. Identification of the infringing material and reasonably sufficient information to locate it (exact Storyroom URL);
  4. Your contact information (address, telephone, e-mail);
  5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief the disputed use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law;
  6. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owners behalf.

2. What happens next

  • We will acknowledge receipt within 48 hours.
  • If the notice is complete and valid, the specified material will be removed or disabled within 5 business days.
  • We will notify the uploader (if any) and provide information about filing a counter-notification.

3. Counter-notification

If you believe your content was removed by mistake or misidentification, you may file a counter-notification pursuant to 17 U.S.C. § 512(g). Your counter-notice must include:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature;
  2. Identification of the material that has been removed and its original location;
  3. A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed due to mistake or misidentification;
  4. Your name, address, telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the Federal District Court for the district in which your address is located (or, if outside the United States, for any judicial district in which Storyroom may be found) and that you will accept service of process from the person who filed the original DMCA notice.

Upon receipt of a valid counter-notification, we will forward it to the original claimant and restore the material within 10 - 14 days unless the claimant files a court action.
